GreenCycle Compost
Compost is widely recognized as an extremely valuable and versatile soil amendment. Our compost is derived from decomposed leaves and yard trimmings and is 100% natural. It contains absolutely no sewage sludge or other municipal solid waste and is safe to use in food production. Screened to a 1/2 particle size or less, GreenCycle Compost offers a wide range of benefits and uses.
Benefits
Compost adds humus which improves soil structure and fertility:
Holds soil together in loose aggregates making it easy to work and giving it a desirable crumb structure
Increases pore space for better oxygen and water transport to the root zone
Increases water-holding capacity, soil will hold water without becoming soggy
Introduces beneficial microorganisms that are essential for maintaining soil fertility. Feeds and maintains the vitality of the existing microbe population
Increases soil Cation Exchange Capacity which improves storage and timely release of nutrients
Acts as a buffering agent, moderates extremes of pH
Suppresses some plant disease organisms
Uses
Soil Amendment - Compost can be used to improve virtually any soil. Compost decreases the bulk density of clay soils allowing for better root penetration, oxygen infiltration and water drainage. Compost increases the water-holding and nutrient-retention capabilities of sandy soils.
Top Dressing - A thin layer of compost applied over turf replenishes organic matter and stimulates soil microorganisms. Increased biological activity will enhance soil fertility and minimize thatch build-up.
Landscape Plantings - Compost can be used as a peat substitute when planting trees and shrubs or when preparing beds for annuals and perennials. A top dressing of compost placed under mulch and extending beyond the drip line of new plantings will encourage roots to develop and spread outward.
